Culture during the Occupation

Censorship, Germanization and regulation were also evident in culture, as in other areas of the Protectorate's life after the occupation. All cultural life was influenced by German propaganda. The import and publication of foreign literature and magazines was banned. he Czech press was significantly reduced, and lists of banned literature were created. Censorship was manifested in the field of music and theatre. Czech theatres were often seized for the needs of German audiences. In January 1942, the Office of People's Enlightenment (later a ministry) was established, having culture as its responsibility. The Office of the Reich Protector also supervised culture. A number of personalities of artistic life were persecuted, imprisoned or executed immediately after March 1939.
