To warm and please the eye
In the cold months, the medieval tiled stove provided the castle lords with a feeling of warmth. These were masterpieces of craftsmanship that not only fulfilled the heating function, but also represented an aesthetic element of the interior. Tiles are their basic building element (vessel-shaped and, later, chamber tiles). Chamber ones were decorated with various art motifs on the front heating wall – from plant to figural, heraldic, secular or religious motifs, which often expressed the ideas of their owners. The tiled stove entered the Czech environment relatively late, only in the second half of the 13th century.
