The castle was built in the first third of the 14th century and is mentioned for the first time in a deed by Duke Nicolas II dated June 28, 1342.

It is located above the village of Pocheň, in the picturesque and wide valley of the Čižina River. It was built on a rocky elevation exceeding the surrounding area by 12 m.

The castle hill was encircled by a moat, behind which a rampart made of piled stones and earth was placed. The castle core was divided by a wall into two parts of unequal spatial size. On the south side, there was an economic forecourt with a courtyard, from where the castle was entered via a bridge and a tower gate running from the oval fortification of the outer wall. The overall appearance of the castle was probably the result of two construction phases from the beginning of the 14th and the course of the 15th century.
